Donald Trump, the former US President, took a unique approach to his Mother's Day message on Sunday. Instead of a conventional tribute, especially to his wife Melania Trump, he used the occasion to critique his political opponents on the left.

Trump's statement, which was posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, was charged with his usual outspoken rhetoric. He extended Mother's Day wishes "to ALL, in particular the Mothers, Wives and Lovers of the Radical Left Fascists, Marxists, and Communists who are doing everything within their power to destroy and obliterate our once great Country.”

The 76-year-old former president also had a peculiar request for these women. He implored them to make their partners "Kinder, Gentler, Softer and, most importantly, Smarter, so that we can, quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

What raised eyebrows was the absence of any recognition of Melania Trump, his spouse of two decades and mother to their 17-year-old son, Barron. This omission in his Mother's Day message stood in stark contrast to the personal acknowledgements made by other political figures.

Using public holidays to express political grievances is not new to Trump. Last year, his Mother's Day message was similarly directed at the "Racist, Vicious, Highly Partisan, Politically Motivated, and Very Unfair Radical Left Democrat Judges." His Christmas greeting extended to "Radical Left Marxists" and the FBI, whom he accused of illegal coercion.

Trump also took the opportunity to laud himself in the third person, describing himself as "Brilliant, Clairvoyant," and "USA LOVING." On Father's Day 2021, he released a statement attacking the "Radical Left, RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) and other Losers of the world.”

While Trump's Mother's Day message took a confrontational route, others opted for more traditional sentiments. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, considered a strong contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, posted a heartfelt tweet dedicated to his wife and their children.

President Biden, too, shared a touching tribute to First Lady Jill Biden on Twitter. His caption read: “To the love of my life, and the life of my love — Happy Mother’s Day, @flotus.”
