Hunter Biden could reportedly be charged with tax and gun-purchase crimes. This comes after a new report revealed that federal agents investigating the matter believe they have enough evidence for a case.

The report, published Thursday, is from The Washington Post, which cited sources familiar with the investigation. It noted that the agents had determined they had assembled a viable criminal case against the First Son, according to the New York Post.

As for whether the case will be filed against U.S. President Joe Biden’s son, the final decision now reportedly rests with the Delaware U.S. Attorney, David Weiss.

NYPost recalled that the probe on Hunter Biden began in 2018, when investigators started to look at his and his associates’ overseas business dealings. But, it noted that, as per the new report from The Washington Post, the investigation has shifted its focus on whether he reported his income properly.

In late 2020, it is said that the First Son himself made a statement regarding the investigation, acknowledging that federal authorities in Delaware were looking into his “tax affairs.” He reportedly noted, though, that he was “confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately.”

Meanwhile, with regard to the gun-purchase crime, the report said that the questions surrounding the matter emerged in late 2018.

Hunter Biden had reportedly answered “no” on a federal form, asking him whether he was “an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance,” as per NYPost.

However, the report stated that the U.S. President’s son had been discharged from the Navy Reserve five years earlier after testing positive for cocaine.

Moreover, he is noted to have admitted in his own memoir, published last year, that he was addicted to crack at the time of the purchase.

The New York Post pointed out that it is a felony to lie on a federal gun purchase form.

Hunter Biden’s camp, specifically his lawyer, Chris Clark, shared a statement with CBS regarding the new report from The Washington Post, according to BBC.

The lawyer is said to have noted that he expects the Department of Justice to “diligently investigate and prosecute” individuals who leaked information about the investigation.

Clark also reportedly said that he has had no contact “whatsoever” with any federal investigators, adding that the information cited in The Washington Post report was “inherently biased, one-sided, and inaccurate.”

BBC later quoted the lawyer from the statement, writing, “As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense.”

It continues, “That is the job of the prosecutors. They should not be pressured, rushed, or criticized for doing their job.”
