A royal historian and commentator believes King Charles III will bring more changes to the British Monarchy and the British Royal Family. These may reportedly include limiting titles to some royals, like Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Speaking to Express UK, Marlene Koenig shared that the potential changes “could include downgrading” the royal-born Princesses to a different royal style. She explained that this is in accordance with the Letters Patent King George V issued in 1917.

The publication quoted the royal expert, claiming, “Yes, there will be a change, and it could include downgrading Beatrice and Eugenie to the style of daughters of a Duke.”

Marlene Koenig continued to explain that the 1917 Letters Patent is why the current Dukes of Kent and Gloucester are the last members of the British Royal Family to have the HRH style and Prince title.

As noted, considering that they are grandsons in the male line, their children, who are great-grandsons of King George V, no longer have the same titles.

The royal historian consequently pointed out that the daughters are, instead, styled as “Lady [Christian Name],” and “Lord [Christian Name]” for the sons.

The publication recalled that the 1917 Letters Patent limited the HRH style and Prince and Princess titles only to some members of the family. These include the children of the monarch, grandchildren of the monarch in the male line, and the eldest son of the Prince of Wales’ eldest son.

In 2012, however, Queen Elizabeth II issued a Letters Patent, "updating" the rules, according to Reuters. This allowed all grandchildren of the now-King Charles III from his eldest son, Prince William, to have the HRH style and Prince and Princess titles.

Meanwhile, the potential changes in the royal style and titles may also reportedly affect Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children.

Following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, King Charles III immediately assumed the role of the monarch. Accordingly, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children became grandchildren of a sovereign, giving them the right to have the HRH style and Prince and Princess titles, according to CNN.

Express UK later noted that the discussion over Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s titles with King Charles III as the monarch came after news broke that Queen Margrethe II of Denmark stripped four of her grandchildren of their royal titles.

The publication, in its previous report covering the surprising development, quoted the announcement, writing, “As of January 1, 2023, the descendants of His Royal Highness Prince Joachim will only be able to use their titles of Count and Countess of Monpezat, their previous titles of Prince and Princess of Denmark ceasing to exist.”

The report noted that Prince Joachim of Denmark, who is the Queen’s second and youngest child, has four children from two marriages.
