Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to receive a mixed reception from netizens across media platforms. This comes after reports of their rumored return to New York for an appearance at the United Nations General Assembly made headlines earlier this week.

Express UK said some individuals have slammed and criticized the former working royals upon learning the news.

One netizen even reportedly asserted that they cannot “get on with their own families,” seemingly implying the irony as it is a “united nations” event.

While criticisms have become apparent, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also said to have received praise and words of appreciation from others.

The outlet noted that supporters were “thrilled,” with some even comparing the royal-born Prince to his mother, Princess Diana.

Reportedly, as per a fan, Prince Harry will “speak from heart” and “had the heart of service to others” like the Princess of Wales. A few are even stated to have referred to him as the “People’s Prince.”

The assertions and comments come as news broke that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will head to New York in the next few days.

Reports said that a spokesperson for the United Nations confirmed the former working royals’ “special appearance” at the General Assembly.

People noted that the event, taking place on July 18, is for the celebration of Nelson Mandela Day. It also said Prince Harry is “expected to give an address.”

No further clarification and confirmation has emerged, especially from the Sussexes camp. It remains unclear whether the royal-born Prince will indeed give a speech or when they will return to the Big Apple.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were last in New York in November 2021. They marked Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in the United Kingdom at the Salute to Freedom Gala, which occurred at the Intrepid Museum.

A source told Page Six that the former working royals decided to stay in a luxury apartment, which a friend owns. Moreover, they reportedly had “eight bodyguards and a surveillance van on site,” adding that the pair would “go in and out through the basement.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were also in the Big Apple in September. They participated in the Global Citizen Live, which aimed to tackle COVID-19 vaccine equity.

The former working royals shared a few words during the event. The Duchess of Sussex, at one point, stated, “There is so much that we can do today, now that can get us closer to ending this pandemic and that’s why we’re all here.”
