Kate Middleton wasn’t chosen as one of the bridesmaids at Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, as well as Pippa Middleton’s nuptials.

While speaking with Town & Country, royal expert Marlene Koenig said that it is not common for royal brides to have a bridesmaid.

When Markle tied the knot with Prince Harry, the Duchess of Cambridge was already in her 30s. As such, it is also unusual for women in their 30s to be maids of honor or matrons of honor.

And when Pippa tied the knot with James Matthews in 2017, the Duchess of Cambridge didn’t also serve as her bridesmaid or matron of honor. According to Express, there are claims that Middleton could upstage the bride if she happens to be Pippa’s bridesmaid or matron of honor.

After all, Middleton was already an official member of the royal family at that time. And she is also set to become the future queen consort of Britain.

While speaking with People, royal editor Judy Wade said that it must have been a tricky thing for Pippa. After all, she must have wanted her sister to be her bridesmaid. But since her sister is the future queen of Britain, she is expected to draw more attention than the bride herself.

In 2011, Prince William’s wife tapped Pippa to be her bridesmaid. At that time, Pippa was still in her 20s. Pippa held on to her older sister’s Alexander McQueen and she also helped the Duchess of Cambridge throughout the ceremony.

Middleton and Pippa have always been very close. In fact, after Middleton and Prince William split for the second time, Pippa moved in with her sister in a flat in Chelsea. Pippa’s presence helped Middleton deal with her heartbreak.

Pippa was also the one that encouraged Middleton to go out more. And when the latter did, the move sparked jealously from Prince William. As such, it didn’t take very long for Prince William to realize that he really wanted to be with the Duchess of Cambridge.

Four months after their split, Prince William and Middleton officially got back together. However, it took another three years before the Duke of Cambridge proposed to his girlfriend.

In 2011, the couple tied the knot at Westminster Abbey and thousands of people attended their nuptials. At present, Prince William and Middleton at self-isolating at Anmer Hall with their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
